My name is Amanda Zadroga and "Art for Autism" is a project for my senior seminar English course at Rutgers College (from which I've just graduated), entitled the "Rhetoric of Activism." It's goal is to improve services for adults with autism, and to raise awareness of the life-span problem that adults with autism and their families face. Autism is something that affects me personally, as two of my cousins are autistic, and my little brother is developmentally delayed. I decided to use my great interest and passion for music, something that everyone appreciates, to help raise awareness of this project, thus, "Art for Autism." You can contact me at amanda [@] artforautism [dot] net.
The compilation contains songs from mostly local New Jersey bands. The bands involved are: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, the Wrens, Gold Streets, Locksley, Huma, Fake Gimms, Where's Alaska?, the Groucho Marxists, Mike Kovacs (and the Post-Modern Tribe), Rapid Cities, Head Traffic, Forests, Brian Mulvey, and Red Wire Black Wire. All of these artists are aware of the current problem of proper adult autism services and have donated a song in hopes of making you aware of this problem as well.
It is being sold at Barnes and Noble stores in East Brunswick, Princeton, North Brunswick, Freehold, and Holmdel, as well as Princeton Record Exchange, Vintage Vinyl in Fords, and Jack's Music Shoppe in Red Bank.
Please pick up a copy at one of these stores, or right here, and make the struggle of adults with autism a little easier.
An acoustic set featuring four of the bands on the compilation is scheduled for Friday, July 27th at 8pm at the Barnes and Noble in Holmdel, NJ (route 35 south) in order to raise more money for the cause. The show will feature Where's Alaska?, the Groucho Marxists, Head Traffic, and Mike Kovacs. Please visit again soon for more information concerning future events.
